Guides

Simple guides,
zero gatekeeping.

Which milk for what, how to froth it, how to make your own, and what to look for on the shelf.

Guide 01

Choosing your milk

  • For coffee: oat (creamy, foams well) or a "barista" soy.
  • For cereal & smoothies: anything — almond keeps it light.
  • For baking & sauces: soy is the most dairy-like all-rounder.
  • For curries & stews: coconut, always coconut.
  • For protein: soy leads the pack (~3 g per 100 ml — similar to dairy).

Rule of thumb: match the milk to the job ♡

Guide 02

Barista basics at home

  • Heat milk to 55–65°C — hotter and the sweetness fades.
  • "Barista" editions foam better (a touch more fat & acidity buffering).
  • No steam wand? A French press plunged fast makes great microfoam.
  • Pour low and slow into the centre, then lift for the swirl.

Latte art is 80% practice, 20% milk ♡

Guide 03

Make it yourself

  • Kit list: a blender, a nut-milk bag (or clean tea towel), a bottle.
  • Oats = 5 minutes. Almonds & cashews = soak first, then blend.
  • Homemade keeps 3–5 days in the fridge — shake before pouring.
  • Start here: 5-minute DIY oat milk.

One batch and you're hooked ♡

Guide 04

Shopping guide

  • Look for fortified: calcium (~120 mg/100 ml matches dairy), B12, iodine and vitamin D.
  • "Unsweetened" is the everyday pick; check sugar on flavoured ones.
  • Longer ingredient list ≠ worse — stabilisers like gellan gum are safe and keep it pourable.
  • Own-brand is often the same factory as the fancy carton. Try it.

Small swap. Big smile. ♡
