The story
Matcha has been whisked in Japan since the 12th century; oat milk joined the party eight centuries later and never left. The trick is whisking the matcha with water first.
Made with plants
Method
Sift
Sift the matcha into a bowl or mug — 10 seconds that prevents every lump.
Whisk
Add the hot water and whisk in a zig-zag (bamboo whisk or a small regular one) until foamy with no clumps.
Milk it
Warm and froth the oat milk (or shake it hard in a jar for iced). Pour over the matcha, sweeten if you like.
Admire, then drink
That green-on-cream swirl is the whole aesthetic. Enjoy it before you stir.
Little tips ♡
- Water at 80°C, never boiling — boiling water turns matcha bitter.
- Culinary-grade matcha is fine for lattes.
- Iced: matcha + water + shake with ice, then top with cold oat milk.
