🌱 Seed Milks

Hemp Milk

Hemp milk is made from the seeds of Cannabis sativa, though there's nothing heady about it: the seeds contain none of the plant's intoxicating compounds. Hemp has been grown for thousands of years for rope, sailcloth and paper, and the milk emerged in the 2000s as farmers rediscovered the crop β€” the UK's Good Hemp famously launched from a Devon farm. The flavour is earthy and grassy, with a savoury, sunflower-seed edge; you'll know within a sip or two whether it's for you. It suits porridge and wholegrain baking, stands out nutritionally for omega-3 and omega-6 fats in a naturally good balance, and it's free from nuts, soya and gluten. Barista versions froth respectably, and it blends well into smoothies.
